The Amanxing Race 2: Going to the Dogs
DOGLEG 2: Flying Down to Rio

At the PET STOPS, teams have a mandatory 12-hour rest period in which they can eat, sleep, and socialize with other racers. Because all teams had to wait for the slow Irish Setters, they had four extra hours in Newfoundland, and thus had plenty of time to start forming alliances. As predicted, the police dogs and Team Army/Navy are now allied, but there's a more unusual grouping. The Black and Gold Alliance consists of teams that have at least one member with fur of either of those colors: Bella and Douglas, Heidi and Depot, Keo and June, and Quincy and Taffy have banded together. Koko, what do you think of all this?

Hosts Phil Kiwi & Koko

"Good good yellow dogs, Koko love All Ball cat, Koko love horse big ears, fine animal chimps. Devil little bad white cat and big white cats. Black white bear faster."

Having come in first last time, Team QT is the first to leave St. John's. The goldens retrieve their clue: Fly to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and find the giant statue of Christ The Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain.

They are followed by Army Mule and Navy Goat, the police dogs, and Bella and Douglas in a race to the airport to book their flights. The first three teams will connect through New York, but Bella and Douglas overhear someone in the airport and catch an earlier flight through Miami. Sanford and Banjo, Keo and June, and Heidi and Depot are also on the first New York flight, but the pandas, opossums and the Gruesome Twosome (Chef's Blend and Fancy Feast) have to wait until two hours later for their connecting flight through Boston.

Bella and Douglas, bound for New York

Oh no, what's this? Siegfried and Roy are growling and showing their teeth and claws at the ticket attendant, who puts them on the earlier New York flight, but they have to fly in steerage.

Siegfried at St. John's Airport

Bella and Douglas are the first pair to land in Rio, and lucky for them, the Christ statue is the city's most famous landmark and their cabbie knows just where to take them. At the foot of the statue, they get their next clue: Teams must go to the Hippie Fair market in the Ipanema neighborhood and find the wooden fruit vendor. Striped and black and long and furry, the cats to Ipanema go riding.

Navy Goat & Army Mule

The first New York flight has now landed, and these teams also have no trouble finding the statue. Army and Navy are both very outspoken and the police dogs are very aggressive, but Siegfried and Roy aren't afraid to again show their teeth and claws and block the other teams from the clue box and from the cab line. Keo and June give each other strange looks - they'd rather use their brains in the race and sneak around the tigers to catch a cab first.

At the Hippie Market, Bella and Douglas find the wooden fruit vendor. Douglas is disappointed that the fruit isn't real, but Bella is thrilled that their next destination is the Maracana Soccer Stadium. Keo and June are arriving at the Hippie Market as Bella and Douglas are leaving and Douglas clues them in as to where the vendor is. Bananas! Yea!

Althea & Rosemary at the Hippie Market

Meanwhile, the Boston plane arrives, the pandas get to the statue first while Fancy Feast hisses and the opossums have trouble finding the statue.

The defending champs get to the soccer stadium to find a ROAD BLOCK: One member must kick a soccer ball all the way across the field, where they will find the Pet Stop. Bossa Nova Bella maneuvers the ball to the other side of the stadium, Douglas running alongside, and they are met by Phil Kiwi and the great Brazilian soccer player Pele, who is standing with a Fila Brasilero. "Welcome to Brazil, Bella and Douglas! You are team Number 1. Nice technique, Bella!"

Pandas practicing

Having bullied their way through the market, Siegfried and Roy come in second, but get a dirty look from Phil. Keo kicks the ball while running upright, Banjo sweeps it with his tail, and Army Mule just needs one kick to get it across the stadium. Taffy gets a little confused and thinks she has to retrieve the ball, not push it herself, and Heidi runs enthusiastically down the field.

Soccer star Pele, with a Fila Brasilero

Back at the market, the opossums with their poor eyesight are having a terrible time finding the fruit vendor. They refuse to play dead, but aren't surprised when they hear "Althea, Rosemary, I'm sorry to tell you, you are the second team eliminated from the Amanxing Race II."

Next... on the Amanxing Race: They are not numbers - they are free animals! Who is going to be Number One??
